See when the glowing waters of Havelock will be at their brightest
Bioluminescence in Havelock Island is caused by dinoflagellates — tiny plankton that glow blue-green when disturbed by your kayak paddle. Visibility depends primarily on moon darkness (darker = better) and season (November–March is peak). Use our interactive calendar below to find the best dates for your trip.
Everything you need to know to plan the perfect glowing night
Bioluminescence is always present in Havelock waters, but moonlight washes out the glow. During New Moon, the plankton glow is brilliant. Book within 5-7 days of New Moon for the best experience.
November to March is peak season with calm seas and clear skies. April-May is still good. June-August monsoon brings rough seas and suspended tours.
Microscopic plankton called dinoflagellates emit blue-green light when disturbed. Every paddle stroke creates a magical trail of light in Havelock's pristine mangrove waters.
Sunrise tour (3:30 AM) gives you pre-dawn glow plus sunrise. Night Kayaking (7-10 PM) offers pure darkness for maximum glow. Both include guide, safety boat, and equipment.
